Chevy should make a electric mini van called? volt van
By: rmg1035. on 24 Apr 12, 01:00:23
I still think it's price to high for a Vehicle that will depreciate in value. It needs to be priced in the low twenties to really make a market impact. If your buying a car for forty one thousand dollars, I think your crazy or you just have to much money and we need to tax you more. lol ?

remove the gasoline engine, then we will talk about electric cars. this is a total fail? to call this an electric. how can you call a car electric, when there is a gasoline engine in it? call it what it is, a hybrid. an incomplete electric car.
By: lingecresent. on 14 Apr 12, 11:59:15
How much does it cost to replace the batteries? What type of battery does it have? How often you need? to replace the batteries?
By: SCUBONZIES. on 09 Apr 12, 23:10:09
i'm from philly miles?
By: ThePaulgregg. on 04 Apr 12, 22:35:29
How long does the battery last? They are half the price? of the car.
By: karn33333. on 30 Mar 12, 07:59:02
well duh lol there is only one engine. so the engine powers the wheels always. yes but you don't have to use that gas not often enough for you to really notice. I can't see you having? to use the gas generator more then 1 gallon per 3 months. winter time maybe double that. I will say that since I don't actually own one i can't know for sure obviously. still I don't see it any less of an all electric vehicle any more then the leaf. since it only has one engine and a generator to extend its range.
By: AUSTiNKiNSER. on 30 Mar 12, 05:39:20
You still HAVE to put gas in it though. If the gas gets old and it detects it, it will run the engine until it's all gone, and you have to go get more gas because the Volt won't let you drive without it. Over winter,? usually when it's below 20 degrees, it will run the engine no matter what, which sucks... A message will pop up on the info display under the speedometer that says "ENGINE RUNNING DUE TO COLD TEMP." & GM did admit that the engine can and does power the wheels occasionally. :3

That sounds cool I think I would like it. I can see why they wouldn't let you just run the electric without some gas in it, wouldn't want to be stranded? somewhere so its probably just a safety feature. I still wouldn't call it a hybrid though because that at minimum suggest that the engine can run on two kinds of fuel and it can't the fuel only powers a generator, and still only allows electricity into the engine. If you have a short commute you will never use any of that gas in your tank.

& the fact that they did admit to the engine being mechanically linked to the drive train in certain conditions. Which has happened to us a few times when we drove to West Virginia to see family down in Logan County. In FACT, a cool note to take is that the Volt won't let you set the cruise at 70mph if the engine is on even, its either 69mph or 71mph. Try it, it's neat. Because? when the generator is on, and you go over 70, the engine provides some of the thrust to the wheels.

GM is quick to point out that it isn't a hybrid, but in my own opinion, the Volt? uses two fuels. Electric and gas. That's enough to call it a hybrid to me. We bought a Volt in January of 2011, it's number 736 off the assembly line, Veridian Joule Tricoat is the color, we love it. But in very cold conditions, the engine is forced to run and a message appears on the display and says "ENGINE RUNNING DUE TO COLD TEMP." & You can't drive the Volt around with an empty tank of gas, it won't let you.
By: mattgutberlet. on 28 Mar 12, 01:54:50
Not true,? the gas engine directly drives the wheels in some cases.
By: JDYDesigns. on 26 Mar 12, 22:07:02
I do not.?

You don't watch south park? do you?
By: JDYDesigns. on 26 Mar 12, 20:47:15
what??
By: karn33333. on 26 Mar 12, 20:30:10
awwww your? just bikecurious.
By: JDYDesigns. on 26 Mar 12, 20:28:20
Still though, I love gas. the smell at the pump, the exhaust smell, the exhaust sound. close your? eyes and listen to the thing run-you just dont get that with an electric car. which is why I say let the technology develope. America has about 20-30 years of oil left just in the mid states, not including alaska or hawaii. and if we finally get a smart POTUS, he will invest money into drilling for current times, and invest money into electric, or future times.
By: karn33333. on 26 Mar 12, 20:18:50
ok fine but as far as ICE sports cars those are even more expensive then the electric alternatives. If you are talking about taking a sports ICE and converting to a sports EV yeah that would be stupid. that would be a total waste of money, but buying an ev sports is cheaper then buying an ICE sports, if you are talking about a regular commuting car there are neighborhood vehicles, if you are? talking regular family car there is the leaf and the volt which is cheaper all things considering.
By: JDYDesigns. on 26 Mar 12, 20:12:41
No, as in a sports electric car. I have seen them at my track, people building thier own electric cars, it's similar to having a dragster as a daily driver. Yes, the volt is cheap, I am talking about a tesla roadster. too much for even me to handle. fine, screw 2010 GS vette, a C5 coupe/targa. even IF we do make a change to all electric cars, what will the trucks? be? no more productivity, I guess.
By: karn33333. on 26 Mar 12, 20:03:24
you are out of your damn mind. it doesn't cost any where near that to make an electric car on your own, and the volt is only 32k. you most certainly could use an electric car daily even in? a city. people do it every single day.
By: JDYDesigns. on 26 Mar 12, 19:58:39
Yes, but then again for what I pay for an unreliable electric sports car, or to build one myself, could buy me a beach-side house in Florida with a used 2010 corvette GS in my garage. Yes, I do, but electric cars are quiet, I like the loud obnoxious sound, even though it has nothing to do with HP. Yes, they have more torque, it's still not like driving a gas powered car, you wouldnt be able to use one of those cars daily, especially in? city driving, too much torque.
By: karn33333. on 26 Mar 12, 15:29:49
No it doesn't, in no way is it a hybrid. it has a back up generator. that is? completely different then a hybrid. It has no Internal combustion engine or ice, which hybrids have.
By: karn33333. on 26 Mar 12, 15:26:24
If you were a real car guy you would know that there are real sports electric cars. /watch?v=p0mU6DIZWlQ you would also know that flame sticker and fake exhaust doesn't make a car go faster. Electric cars are much faster and not just because they are considerably lighter and has considerably more torque. ?
By: NikeBlazer623. on 02 Mar 12, 06:17:03
FUCKEN HATE THE NEW? FUTURE... BUT GOTTA DEAL WITH IT.
By: AUSTiNKiNSER. on 07 Feb 12, 00:44:07
But GM did admit that at speeds above 70mph with the generator on, the engine is mechanically linked to the wheels. So it makes it a hybrid, but they did say that? by doing that, it boosted efficiency by 10-15%.
